Assassin’s Creed is coming to the iPad

October 31st, 2011

The title is native to the Sony Playstation and was one of the big release games to be launched with the PS3, and now a variation of the bestselling title is coming to the iPad.

The title is usually a free-roaming game, with what seems endless ancient cities to explore and “roam”. The new version for the iPad is said to be based on a board game concept, with gameplay lasting a hefty 10 hours – a good amount of gameplay for an app!

The app will be made by the same studio as the game, so expect great graphics and great gameplay.

And what a great game to play with the i360 stand!

NASA Sends iPads into Space

October 27th, 2011

And not for work or business purposes, purely for recreation for the staff on the International Space Station.

Along with the iPads is an Angry Birds plush toy, though I’m not sure how it works throwing the toy around in a zero-gravity atmosphere? Certainly would be fun to watch. And how are the astronauts to download apps to the devices? Does the App Store reach all the way into space!

Still it will certainly be a break for the staff on the space station and I’m sure throwing the Angry Bird around in the zero gravity will be good entertainment.

Microsoft Provided the Inspiration for the iPad

October 26th, 2011

Now that’s a law suit Samsung would like to be on the right side of! But no law suit here. It is a revelation from Steve Jobs’ biography that is now on sale and topping book charts worldwide.

The story tells of how Steve Jobs was at dinner with a Microsoft employee who was boasting about how their tablet is going to change the world and the operating system they have for it will make all notebook computers obsolete. Funny how the Windows based tablet still hasn’t appeared in the market place?

After going home from said meal, Steve Jobs gathered his team the next day and told them that they were all going to make a tablet. After selling 38.9 million tablets since, and Microsoft yet to release theirs, I think Apple have won, and Steve certainly showed that employee how to create a tablet.

i360 Stand Featured at EA Games London Launch

October 26th, 2011

The i360 Stand was recently sent to EA Games for their Autumn Games Launch in London. The i360 was used in a breakout area whilst press and invited guests were waiting for announcements and conferences.

The i360 housed an iPad which had been preloaded by EA with the latest Need for Speed App, which we love to play on using the i360 stand – it turns the iPad into the steering wheel for the game.

Needless to say – the i360 was well received by the gamers at the EA Launch!

Apple Refresh the Smart Cover Designs

October 25th, 2011

ipad 2 smart covers from appleUpdates appeared in the Apple Store Online yesterday with no official announcement.

Along with updates to the specifications for the MacBook lines, Apple also introduced a new dark grey polyurethane smart cover and removed the orange cover from the store. All the new, updated Smart Covers now have colour coordinated microfibre lining to match the outside – a feature which has previously only been included on the more expensive leather varieties.

Android Beats iOS in Total Mobile App Downloads

October 25th, 2011

In a report released yesterday it was revealed that Android App downloads for the second quarter of 2011 beat iOS downloads.

Downloads to Google’s android based operating system totalled 44% of the overall mobile download market, compared to 31% of downloads to Apple devices. However, Apple are still ranking at the top in the “downloads per user” totals, with almost a 2:1 ratio.

Now these leaning trends towards Google’s operating system should make some of the major app development companies move over to working on Google’s OS. Apple’s pricing strategy for apps has always meant their system has been favoured by developers, but now with the clear increase in android downloads hopefully the attention will shift.

Are Apple Switching to Fuel Cell Plate Technology?

October 24th, 2011

In a patent filed and published on Thursday 20th October by the US Patent & Trademark office, Apple are showing an interest in using fuel cell plates to power their portable devices.

Apple are always thinking how to make technology smaller and more efficient, and it appears the fuel cell plates will allow Apple to do this. With all Apple iOS devices constantly running down batteries, the lack of power is a constant complaint from users. With fuel cell plate technology it will allow more power in a smaller space – and also add some resistance to potential water damage.

Especially with Siri in the new iPhone 4S – and sure to be included in the iPad 3 – demand from the devices battery is at an all time high. This new technology may be the answer… though as the patent has only just been filed it will be a few years before we see the technology hitting our devices.

A New Dock Connector for iPad 3?

October 24th, 2011

Rumours are back circulating for iPad 3, now iPhone 4S/5 has made its appearance!

The origin of this rumour is from a Japanese rumour site – showing images of a new, smaller dock connector for the iPad 3. Whilst it seems odd that Apple would change their very own dock connector from their devices, at some point it does need to lead in to new technology. And with a patent filed for Thunderbolt USB 3.0 ports in devices, is this the point to change?

It seems unlikely to introduce a USB 3.0 compatible device at this time, but the Japanese site do have images supposedly “proving” the evidence. And this, along with Apple’s patents filed in 2009 and 2011 do make for a good case.

An interesting one to follow…

Apple Post Record Profits for Q4

October 21st, 2011

Apple’s quarterly results are released again and it is good news all round.

The company has made $6.62 billion net profit for the quarter! An astounding amount considering through this period there were no new devices or product releases. The sales figures for Macs, iPads and iPhones all increased, while sales of the iPod saw a considerable decrease of 27%.

Apple are still at the top of their game and the top of the market – and with Tim Cook announcing “we have some incredible things in the pipeline” it looks exciting for Apple fans around the world.
